Fractures of the neck of the talus: evaluation of reproducibility of Hawkins' classification
نویسندگان
چکیده
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the intraobserver and interobserver reproducibility of Hawkins' classification for fractures of the neck of the talus. METHODS 20 random cases of fracture of the talus were selected, to be defined according to the classification of types by eight orthopedic surgeons, 13 orthopedic residents and 15 radiology residents. RESULTS Using the statistical test of Landis and Koch, measurements of 0.627 and 0.668 were obtained in the first and second evaluations, respectively. These values define a satisfactory agreement for Hawkins' classification. CONCLUSION We conclude that this classification is reproducible between observers, with better values for the more experienced observers. Level of Evidence I, Study Diagnostic - Investigating a diagnostic test.

[Is the Hawkins sign able to predict necrosis in fractures of the neck of the astragalus?].
OBJECTIVE To assess if the Hawkins sign can predict whether or not astragalus fractures of the neck will develop avascular necrosis. It is also assessed whether the occurrence of this complication is related to the displacement of the fracture, soft tissue injury, or delay in the reduction or surgery. The results were compared with those found in the literature. MATERIAL AND METHODS A retrosp...
متن کاملOperative treatment of displaced talar neck fractures.
Twenty-two displaced talar neck fractures were treated by open reduction and internal fixation. Four open fractures were operated within 8 hours and 18 closed injuries were treated at an average interval of 13.8 hours after injury. Fractures were classified according to Hawkins' classification into 14 type II, 7 type III and 1 type IV. At an average follow up of 4.4 years, 18 cases obtained exc...
متن کاملPrevention of avascular necrosis in displaced talar neck fractures by hyperbaric oxygenation therapy: a dual case report.
Talar neck fractures are a rare injury that account for less then 2% of all foot fractures. Displaced fractures are associated with an exceedingly high rate of avascular necrosis (AVN). The incidence of AVN following Hawkins Type 3 fractures of the talar neck may approach 100%, particularly if diagnosis and reduction are delayed. Severe cases may present as pain and disability of the ankle and ...
متن کاملIs early Weight Bearing Allowed in Surgically Treated Talar Neck Fractures?
INTRODUCTION Non-or partial weight bearing is frequently the standard treatment after peri-articular lower extremity fractures. Displaced talar neck fractures are severe injuries compromising vascularity of the corpus and consequently are at risk for non-union and avascular necrosis, the main reason to restrict weight bearing for up to three months according to most literature. CASE PRESENTAT...
متن کاملTalus fractures: evaluation and treatment.
Fractures of the talus are uncommon. The relative infrequency of these injuries in part accounts for the lack of useful and objective data to guide treatment. The integrity of the talus is critical to normal function of the ankle, subtalar, and transverse tarsal joints. Injuries to the head, neck, or body of the talus can interfere with normal coupled motion of these joints and result in perman...
